Investigations

Work is to start in the next month or so to take down the plasterboard above the vennel to see what's up there. Actually we know what's up there - there's a wooden floor with a brick wall built in the middle of it. What we want to know is what state it's in and what we need to do to it.

The general consensus is that the wall will have to be removed and replaced by a steel beam and stud partition, but we'd have to get the structural engineer to declare it unsafe. That shouldn't be difficult since the floor is severely bowed and the walls show signs of relatively recent movement.
